Team 4738 was formed in the fall of 2012 by a group of 8 seniors looking to participate in FRC. Since then, we have taken on our team name (the Patribots), and our team has grown to 20 student members, and 10 active adult mentors and advisors.
Our team's mission is to inspire young people to become leaders in their community, and inspire them to persue a career in Science and technology. By providing them with stellar mentorship, we hope to build greater experience in design and delvolpment, in turn fostering growth in student's self-confidence, communication, and leadership skills.
FIRST is a non-profit organization that runs several international youth robotics programs, ranging from elementary school to high school level competitions. Their high school program, named FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) , has been dubbed the "varsity sport of the mind". Students involved in FRC are given the chance to work side by side business professionals in the fields of engineering, computer science, and marketing/management, all of whome are integral to the success of the team. FRC teams are given 6 weeks in January and Februaryto build a new robot from scratch that satisfies that year's new game. The games change every year. Competitions are held in March and early April, and several off season events are staged throughout the year. Outside of competitions, FRC teams are also expected to participate in community outreach programs, and many FRC teams mentor younger kids in other youth programs associated with FIRST.
